FAQ’s
How old do you have to be?
Cadette (going into 7th grade and are finishing up their first year being a Cadette) through Ambassador.
When do you need to decide you are traveling?
As soon as you are ready! As long as the trip is paid in full before July 12th, 2025– jump in now and be part of the planning or jump in at the end and be along for the journey!
How many Girl Scouts will be on this trip?
We need at least 12 Girl Scouts registered for this travel opportunity to run. If you know a teen girl that is not yet a Girl Scout, they can register for this trip too by just adding on the membership fee!
Who is chaperoning this trip?
Council staff will be leading this trip in ratio with Girl Scouts registered, with a “home base” of staff in Tucson.
Can caregivers attend with their Girl Scout?
No, this is a Girl Scout-led/Girl Scout only experience, facilitated by staff, in the progression-focused manner that follows GSUSA approved travel parameters, teaching Girl Scouts the beauty and ways of travel!
When is the trip?
The trip will be during fall break of 2025 (October; Friday-Monday) and will be adjusted based on Girl Scout-led planning.
Why not a set date, and rather a window of time for flights?
Because to spend money efficiently and maximize everything they want to do, flexible dates/times are crucial! As we plan the trip together, we will finalize dates based on what works best for the Girl Scout travelers for both availability and overall budget (balancing budget is key to experiencing everything you hope for). This is all a part of learning HOW to travel beyond what is created for you, using resources wisely. These techniques will be taught to Girl Scouts during the travel meetings.
What if this is during my school week?
We will try our best to follow most of Southern Arizona’s fall break schedules. If this does not align with your school’s schedule, we will be visiting a University in San Francisco to allow an excused absence in accordance with the school’s policy.
Are there opportunities to earn the funds to travel?
Absolutely! There are different ways for Girl Scouts to earn additional funding for this trip:
· Apply for our Fairy-God-Sisters Grant
·Participate in the Fall and Cookie Program and use your dough/travel funds
·Host a pre-approved money earning opportunity like car washes, babysitting, journey in a day, etc.
· Ask for help paying for the trip over birthday/holiday gifts
·And many other opportunities created by you for you!
Fun fact: This is one of our training sessions. You are welcome to join/watch the training where we speak about these opportunities.
What are the suggested monthly payments?
$350 monthly to hit $2,750 by July!
Are refunds available if we decide we do not want to travel after we place our deposit?
This depends on when you cancel as your cancellation affects everything about group travel. Based on dates:
·Up until May 1: Full refund (minus deposit)
·May 2 – June 1: 50% of total bill refunded
· June 2 – July 1: 25% refunded, from total bill IF tickets have not been pulled. If you’ve not paid up past the 25% due amount, no refund is available
· July 12: Trip due in full, no longer refundable
Do we get to choose what we want to do?
ABSOLUTELY!! This is a Girl Scout planned trip and based on presentations and group votes at each monthly meeting, this trip will get booked based on the group's decisions! Make your dreams come to life!
The itinerary in full including dates will be created together as a group by you, the travelers, with help from staff, and done before the trip!
Can I fly separately from the group?
We will be traveling as a group starting at the airport. Girl Scouts are required to be on the same flight as the Girl Scout staff chaperoning the trip.
When are the travel meetings held?
All by zoom with the exception of one live meeting one month before the trip. All meetings will be the first Tuesday of each month from 5:30pm-7:00pm, unless voted otherwise by Girl Scout preference.
We hope you are just as excited about this once-in-a-lifetime travel opportunity! Exploring the world opens our eyes to new cultures, deepens our understanding of humanity, and, of course, lets us experience amazing food along the way!
