Money-earning activities and events are wonderful ways for Girl Scouts to lead, learn new skills, work as a team, and turn their ideas into action! Before your troop or Service Unit raises money, sells anything, or hosts an event, you must receive council approval. Here is how to know which form you need:
- Money-Earning Activity Form: Use this form for activities such as hosting a car wash or selling items at Winter Market.
- Intent to Event (I2E) Form: Use this form when your troop or Service Unit is planning an event that will be shared on our website or calendar, uses our registration system, or earns any money—even one cent. Troops and Service Units have separate forms because they ask different questions:
- Donation Request Form: Asking a business or community member to donate money, supplies, food, services, or other items comes with special rules and requires council approval (see above).
Creating a budget is also an important part of the Girl Scout experience. It helps girls make decisions, understand costs, and keep their plans on track. You do not have to use our budget template, but it is available if you need it. [attached] After the event, remember to complete the event closeout and use surveys to learn what went well and what could be even better next time.
Most importantly, troops and Service Units may not ask for donations, raise money, sell items, or host an event without council approval. Great job starting here, gathering the information you need and helping Girl Scouts build courage, confidence and character through meaningful, girl-led experiences!
Before You Make Your Plans…
Please review what is—and is not—an approved Girl Scout money-earning activity before submitting your request. Money-earning activities should be girl-led, age-appropriate, and connected to a service, experience, or item the girls create or provide.
The following activities cannot be approved:
- Internet sales, GoFundMe pages or other crowdfunding
- Asking for cash donations without providing a product or service
- Raffles, drawings, games of chance or auctions
- Selling commercial products
- Raising money on behalf of another organization
- Restaurant percentage nights, such as Chipotle or Sauce fundraisers
