Ways to Participate

At Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona, girls have more choices and ways to participate than ever before. From art to science, camping to community service, there's something for every girl, no matter what she's passionate about. Grab your girl and, together, take a look at all the exciting ways to be a Girl Scout!

Join an Existing Troop or Program

When you join Girl Scouts, you get options! From a traditional troop of your peers to going solo as a Juliette, you’re sure to find a place here.

Volunteer-Led Troops

Volunteer-led troops are led by a volunteer member of the community—usually a parent or caregiver of one of the girls in the troop. You and your troop sisters decide what to do, and work together with your troop leader to make it happen. Whether you get together once a week or once a month, you’ll find yourself counting the days until your next troop meeting starts!

You’ll try new lots of new things—like camping, designing robots, making jewelry, geocaching, helping your community, conducting science experiments, planting gardens, going on field trips, and oh, so much more—and lead your own adventure the whole way.

Join
Council-Led Clubs

Council-led clubs provide girls in 6th-12th grades the unique opportunity to do a deep dive into an area they’re interested in. These groups can be joined in addition to, or even in place of, a volunteer-led troop. They are led by Program Specialists on staff at Girl Scouts. Each is designed to give girls an outlet to explore their own interests with like-minded girls:

  • Astronomy Club is our space science club with chapters in Pima and Yuma Counties. Girls conduct experiments, earn badges, go on field trips, meet with local astronomers, stargaze, and more.
  • Girl Volunteer Corps is our community service club with chapters in Pima, Cochise, and Yuma Counties. Girls take action on local issues they care about through hands-on service projects that they choose, plan, and lead together.
  • Trailblazers is our outdoor adventure club, with one chapter (so far!) in Pima County. Girls choose their expeditions as a group, such as backpacking, paddling, or rock climbing, and set off together to explore their strengths, test their limits, and take the lead along the way!
Join
Juliettes (Individual Girl Members)

Juliette Girl Scouts are registered girl members in grades K-12 who are not affiliated with a troop or troop leader. Instead, you’ll have flexibility to try all the experiences Girl Scouts has to offer, on your own time and at your own pace. You’ll participate in our program grade levels (Daisies, Brownies, etc.), earn badges and awards, sell cookies, and much more—all with personal guidance from an important adult in your life.

Whether you travel the world or meet new friends at Girl Scout events, your independence and passion will lead you to success both in Girl Scouts and in your life!

Start a Girl Scout Troop

Parents, caregivers, and community members make a key difference in the lives of girls by guiding them through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Leading a troop is an incredible way to help girls empower themselves to make the world a better place! To get started, select the “I want to lead her troop” option when you join Girl Scouts.

I Need Help Starting A Troop

We're thrilled to hear you're interested in starting a troop! At this point in the registration process, you should be on the "WAYS TO PARTICIPATE" page, where you will see the option to search for a troop.

First, use the search tool to look for troops near you. This will pull up an option that says "Unsure." Rather than selecting a troop to join, click "Unsure."

A text box will pop up asking "Why are you unsure?" Please enter the following information into that box:

  • Write "I would like to start a troop!" at the top
  • Indicate which age ranges or levels of girls you would like to lead
  • Indicate if you have a leader or co-leader in mind yet
  • Add any other information that will help us get your trooped started

It's okay if you don't know these answers yet! Fill out what you can, and our Membership Team will help you figure out the rest.

If you need further assistance navigating the Opportunity Catalog or completing your registration, please call our Customer Care line at 520-327-2288, and ask to speak with a Placement Specialist. We are here to help!

I Need Help Finding A Specific Troop

At this point in the registration process, you should be on the "WAYS TO PARTICIPATE" page, where you will see the option to search for a troop. Here's how you can find the troop you are looking to join:

  • In the Troop # box, write in your troop number
  • Enter the zip codes of the area where the troop meets
  • If you aren't sure where the troop meets, expand the radius up to 20 miles beyond your own zip code
  • Enter your girl's current grade at school (if it does not already appear)
  • Press Search, and select your troop

If your troop does not appear as an option, it is possible the troop has opted out of appearing in the Opportunity Catalog and has not informed our Membership Team that they are accepting new girls. At this point:

  • Click "Unsure"
  • In the text box that pops up asking "Why are you unsure?" please write the troop number and leader's name for the troop you are looking to join
  • Please indicate if you have received permission to join the troop

That's it! Our Membership Team will be in touch to confirm your troop selection.
