Girl Scouts Guide to Helping Others During COVID-19
arrow4-right_green_32

It’s in our Girl Scout DNA to help in a time of crisis. For those that are healthy and want to help others, there are multiple ways to help those in need during the novel coronavirus outbreak. But how can we do so responsibly? In some cases, you don’t even need to step outside your home to help in a meaningful way.

DIY Flower Press

Materials- Several large HEAVY hardcover books, cardboard, scissors, flowers, leaves, white paper, rubber bands.

Directions:

1. Select a thin hardcover book to be your base. With your cardboard, cut several pieces to match the size of the hardcoverbook. Place one sheet of cardboard on your book, and one piece of white paper on top of that.

2. Place your flowers on the white paper, ensuring they are spread out. Place another sheet of white paper on top, and another sheet of cardboard.

3. Continue layering with the sequence of cardboard, paper, flowers/leaves, paper, cardboard. Once you have finished layering, place another thinner hardback book on top.

4. Use rubber bands to bind the hardback books together tightly. Place extra books on top of stack to compress further.

5. Allow flowers to dry in an indoor dry space for at least 48-72 hours, larger flowers will take even longer.

6. When your pressed flowers are dry make them into a project, such as a card, paste them onto a canvas, or create a wall hanging.

The safety and well-being of girls, families, volunteers, and staff are of paramount importance to all of us. While what health officials know about COVID-19 (Coronavirus) continues to develop, we do know that verified cases in Arizona and surrounding states have been increasing, prompting businesses and organizations to take precautions. As such, this page will provide the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona community constant updates on how our council is being impacted as well as daily activites and patch programs for you to do with your girl(s) at home.

Effective March 16, 2020, all Girl Scout programs and events are cancelled through the end of March, or until further notice. During this time, our staff are also working remotely— prompting all of our buildings to be closed. Please check back often for any new updates, and for at-home activities for your Girl Scouts.

We are wishing each and every one of you health and wellness during this time!
