Volunteer Training

Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona provides training to adult members as part of its commitment to girls. Volunteers have the opportunity to develop their skills, increase their knowledge of Girl Scouting and help girls Discover, Connect, and Take Action in their communities and in their world. GSSoAz believes that prepared adults are key to the Girl Scout movement.

All volunteers are required to complete GS 101, All Safety Activity Checkpoints, and attend a Welcome Workshop.

GSSoAz also offers workshops and conferences year round to enhance one’s Girl Scouting journey, connect volunteers, and explore the issues that are most pressing to girls today. To view dates for upcoming Lead the Way Conferences and adult workshops, browse the calendar below:

Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

It's not just what girls do, but how you engage them that create a quality experience. This workshop will help you identify, understand, and utilize the 3 Processes that are the foundation for the GSLE and guide you through the two emerging age-appropriate program resources - the Journeys and the Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting, which are complemented by fun, dynamic, and meaningful programming for girls and the adults who guide them through the various stages of their personal growth and development. In addition, this workshop will guide you through the National Program Portfolio - Leadership Journeys and the Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting Handbook, in addition to the Cookie, Travel, and Highest Awards.

Time: 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Volunteers will learn about progression through the levels in Girl Scout in addition to specifics about levels. Participants will be able to articulate the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) model and how it relates to all levels of Girl Scouts in a way that encourages volunteers to let girls led.

The welcome workshop focuses on policies and guidelines for partnering with girls, Girl Scouts of the USA and Southern Arizona's polices and guidelines, in addition to learning important contact information. The welcome workshop is required for all new volunteers and recommended for all troop leaders to attend again after three years of service.

Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Sharing traditions with millions of Girl Scouts helps remind girls they belong to a large and powerful sisterhood. This workshop is for any volunteer who wants to learn about kaper charts and other group management techniques, SWAPS, Juliette Low’s story, songs and games.

Outdoor Training, Module One
Module one of three for troop camper certification.

Outdoor Adventure Bound, Module Two
This is module two of three for troop camper certification. It covers camping basics like kaper charts, meal planning and ideas for fun activities in the outdoors. This module will help prepare you for the last module which is a live class in knots, knives and new skills as well as outdoor cooking methods and campfires.
