As Girl Scouts we work every day to “make the world a better place.” Did you know community organizations like Soroptimist are always looking to recognize the good deeds done by others? If you know of a Girl Scout teen or adult volunteer we encourage you to have them apply or nominate them for the programs below.

The Violet Richardson Award is a recognition program for young women ages 14-17 engaged in volunteer action to make our community and our world a better place.  Our club loves to honor young women who embody the spirit of Soroptimism.  Submit an application and share your dreams with us.

Soroptimist Ruby Award: Women Helping Women

Every year we honor women who have worked to improve the lives of women and girls through their professional and/or volunteer work.  The ruby is a deep red gemstone associated with wisdom, importance, vitality, strength, vivacity, power and love. These words embodying the strong and compassionate women who are our award recipients.  Anybody can nominate a candidate; introduce us to someone you know. .  For a complete list of other women honored in Tucson click here.

This is the Soroptimist’s major project.  SIDT is proud to have helped over 75 women in the last 35 years.
Eligible applicants must be women who:

  • Provide the primary financial support for their families, and
  • Who are enrolled in or accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Have not already earned an undergraduate degree.
