What Can a Cookie Do?  How about … What can 100 cookies do?!?!

Brownie and Daisy Troop 1011 decided to choose to local organizations to focus on for their “Gift of Caring” for the 2012 cookie season, Casa de los Ninos and The Marana Food Bank.

The 14 girls in this troop had so much support and worked many, many, MANY booths, that they ended up being able to also celebrate 100 years of girl scouting in a BIG way!

Troop 1011, had enough money and cookies donated to be able to donate 100 boxes of cookies to their recipients for the Gift of Caring.

Casa de los Ninos will receive 50 boxes to share with the children who are residing there.  And Marana Food Bank will also receive 50 boxes to distribute among the families who benefit from the donations.

The girls also plan on visiting The Marana Community Farm to work and learn more what the food bank does as they complete their Journeys:  It’s your Story– Tell it! and It’s your World Change it!

In this picture is Troop 1011, with the 100 boxes of cookies, ready to be donated.   In the background is the quilt that they made, after guest Ellen Pott came and visited the troop and they earned their quilting badge.  This picture was taken on March 12th, the 100th birth date of girl scouts.

So “Happy 100 years Girl Scouts”!!!

We celebrate with you all!

Easy online donation supports Southern Arizona goal to donate 24,000 boxes by March 24

Tucson, AZ (March 5, 2012) – Southern Arizona’s Girl Scouts want to give our soldiers, sailors and airmen a little taste of home by donating Girl Scout Cookies. The cookies are sent to U.S. military overseas via Operation Gratitude, a project of the USO – United Service Organizations.

“We started the cookie donation campaign last year and it was very successful,” said Debbie Rich, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona. “For our cookie customers, it was a great way to support our troops – both Girl Scout and US military. The soldiers’ letters of thanks to our Girl Scouts was a great reward and inspired us to send more cookies overseas this year.”

Last year, through generous donations from the community, the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona were able to donate 11,000 boxes of cookies to members of the U.S. military. This year, the Girl Scout’s goal to donate 24,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to US overseas troops. The donation is 100 percent tax deductible.

To donate a box of cookies, stop by one of the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona Resource Centers at:

  • Tucson Resource Center, 4300 E Broadway Blvd , Office: 520.327.2288
  • Yuma Resource Center, 1950 W. 3rd St., Office: 928.210.3629

  • Nogales Resource Center, 1831 N. Mastic Way, Office: 520.980.6117

The 100th Anniversary Gala will be held Saturday, March 24, and cases of cookies will be there for guests to purchase cookies for the troops throughout the evening. Thin Mints coming to your door today

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

It is Girl Scout Cookie time again and 2,404 cases of the sweet treats arrived in Casa Grande this week.

About 200 girls — representing 13 separate troops in Casa Grande, Eloy and Arizona City — will start selling the cookies door-to-door today.

Cookie booth sales will begin Feb. 2 at various grocery stores and other locations throughout the area.

Karen Kerr-Osman, a leader of two area Girl Scout troops, said that scouts tend to sell the cookies throughout their neighborhoods and to friends and family, often going door-to-door and selling the cookies directly.

Years ago, troops did away with the previous method of pre-ordering cookies for consumers, then returning weeks later to deliver the orders.

“It’s much easier and the girls have been more successful just visiting a person once,” Kerr-Osman said.

Cookies are $4 a box for one of six varieties — Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-si-dos, Tagalongs, Trefoils and the new cookie, Savannah Smiles, a lemon cookie.

The 2,404 cases, containing 28,848 individual boxes of cookies, were unloaded in the Lowe’s parking lot earlier this week and volunteers from the Kohl’s Cares program helped to organize and divide the treats for the different troops.

Girl Scouts have been selling cookies as their primary fundraiser since 1917 and proceeds from the sales benefit troops in southern Arizona and help to fund various service projects and activities.

There’s a New Cookie in Town: Meet Savannah Smiles

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Move over Thin Mints, the Girl Scouts have added a new addition to this year’s cookie line up! In honor of the Girl Scouts’ 100th Anniversary in March the Girl Scouts have added Savannah Smiles, a lemon cookie, just in time for the beginning of America’s most beloved annual Girl Scout tradition.

Little Brownie Bakers, the company manufacturing the cookie, describes the new creation as “cool and crisp, with just the right number of lemon chips to deliver tiny bursts of flavor.” The Savannah Smiles cookie plays special homage to the birthplace of Girl Scouts. Juliette Low founded the all girl organization in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia.

The Girl Scouts have been selling cookies as a fundraising effort since 1917. With every Cookie season another generation of girls learns to set goals, to make a plan, and to manage money. With the Girl Scouts’ 100th anniversary quickly approaching in March, it’s a great opportunity to give the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona an early birthday present by buying a box of cookies or two from girls in your community. Will the Savannah Smiles give Thin Mints a run for most popular cookie? Give them a try and let your taste buds decide!

Cookie season kicks off on January 21st when girls can begin selling cookies door to door with cookies in hand. Girl Scout cookie booth sales start on February 2nd. All cookies are $4.00 per box. To find the cookie booth nearest you simply visit http://cookielocator.littlebrownie.com.
