• STEM Club at Flandrau Science Center.

    Our STEM Club girls wanted to thank the Flandrau Science Center for allowing them to meet there every week.  After talking to some of the staff the girls learned that the science center would be having a day camp and needed some help getting their youngest room ready for campers. The girls helped with turning an old storage room in to a bright new classroom by cleaning and painting the wall. The girls had an awesome time helping with this as it was many of their first times painting a room. STEM Club meets every other Thursday during the Summer and weekly during the school year. The club consists of girls Juniors and up who love doing hands on Science, Engineering, Technology and Math activities.   • Girl Scouts CEO to Address UA Grads During 150th Commencement

    Thousands of soon-to-be alums and their families and friends will gather for the University of Arizona's 150th Commencement, where the CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA will address undergraduate and graduate students set to receive more than 7,500 degrees. The May 17 ceremony will again be held at Arizona Stadium. University officials said Monday that, judging from the number of RSVPs already received, the crowd will be big. "Not in the history of the University have we seen these numbers," Mary Venezia, assistant director of strategic initiatives for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, said of the number of guests planning to attend.   • Girl Volunteers in Action

    Last Sunday our Girl Volunteer Corps gathered to take action on their latest service project!  The girls partnered with the Avalon Southwest Health and Rehabilitation Nursing Home to design a Sensory Garden for the Alzheimer’s and Dementia residents.  Current research shows that residents exhibit fewer symptoms of Alzheimer’s in settings with gardens and homelike environments.  Our goal was to create a comforting therapeutic space for these residents, and brighten their day with the sights and smells of flowers and trees!  We arrived on Sunday with over 100 plants and flowers donated by Mesquite Valley Growers.  The girls, residents, and parents worked together to plant, paint, and clean up the area all in a matter of 3 hours!  This project has provided the girls with an opportunity to bui…
