    Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. has declared February 7-8, 2014 as National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend! These special days are a great opportunity for Girl Scouts and Girl Scout supporters to share with the community the importance of the Cookie Program and what it does for the girls and their communities!  On National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend Girl Scout councils from around the nation will be celebrating and promoting the 5 SKILLS that girls learn while participating in the Girl Scout Cookie Program.  These 5 SKILLS include: Goal Setting Decision Making Money Management People Skills Business Ethics Join with us on February 8th to share with the world the power of the Girl Scout Cookie Program!

  • What to do with Girl Scouts, spare time and a paper bag?

    by:  Lynn W Jager As a troop leader, sometimes your ideas for a meeting program just don’t come together, even with the best planning and preparation.  Or maybe your troop is at a program or event waiting in line.  Sometimes you remember on your way home from work that you have a Girl Scout meeting tonight!  You need a last-minute activity that girls of any age will enjoy.  All you need is a paper bag and some imagination.  My best advice to leaders, new and old:  Don’t be afraid to wing it!  The girls are so happy to get together, they don’t have any idea how long you fretted (or NOT) over the program.   • Girl Scouts team up with TEP to give out 150K light bulbs

    By David Wichner As published in the Arizona Daily Star  Tucson Electric Power Co. and the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona are working together to give away 150,000 compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs through Girl Scout cookie sales. The Scouts will give customers one free CFL bulb and an information card with each cookie order. The bulbs are provided through TEP’s Energy Star Lighting program, which makes CFL bulbs available from local stores at discounts of up to 50 percent off of regular retail prices. TEP notes than each CFL saves approximately $4.50 a year — about enough to buy another box of Girl Scout cookies. The bulb giveaway and discount program are funded by a small “demand side management” surcharge on each TEP’s customer’s electric bill. The program was approved by the …
