Eyeglass Recycling Project

You can earn this patch!

You can help a child in another country see well enough to learn to read -- or help a grandmother see her grandchildren for the first time.

You can help to protect the environment by keeping glass and plastic and metal out of the landfill.

And you can do it all through an Eyeglass Recycling Project with the Lions.

Lions Clubs across the U.S. collect used eyeglasses and distribute them in other countries.  In those developing countries, people will walk for miles - and stand in line for hours - to get a pair of glasses.  By collecting glasses with the Lions, you might be giving a child the very first pair of glasses she has ever owned - the pair of glasses that will change her life.

Here in Arizona, Lions run an eyeglass collection and distribution center in Tucson -- one of just 18 Lions eyeglass centers around the world.  Since 2005, approximately 880,000 pairs of glasses have been collected and processed through the Tucson center.

Earn a Lions/Girl Scout patch by planning and carrying out an Eyeglass Recycling Project in your neighborhood, your church, or your school.

If your troop would like to do an eyeglass recycling project, a Lion can come and talk with you to answer all your questions and help you get started.
