• Teams that Volunteer Together, Stay Together

    By Kristi Pallack Our volunteer staff teamed up this week to volunteer at the Emerge Center for Domestic Abuse Holiday House. Megan, Emily, and Ellen knew they could volunteer anywhere during the holiday season but really wanted to volunteer with an organization that supports women. The ladies got to help set up each “shop”: one for moms to shop for their kids, and another for kids to shop for their moms. When the women and children came into the shop, our volunteer team helped show them around, pick out gifts, and then helped wrap them. Emily remembered “one of the ladies who came in and picked out a crockpot. She was so excited about it! She said that when she was able to get back on her feet, she was going to use it all the time and it would make her home warm and smell good.” Volunt…

  • While Data Is Not Destiny, Many Girls Are Falling Behind in America

    New from GSBlog   Although girls in the United States have made substantial progress in the classroom and elsewhere, persistent disparities and challenges exist that could keep many girls from achieving their full potential. Black/African American and Hispanic/Latina girls are far more likely than their white counterparts to face an array of socioeconomic hurdles that range from growing up in poverty or a low-income household to dropping out of school and struggling with obesity, according to a report released today by the Girl Scout Research Institute.    The State of Girls: Unfinished Business charts the often-vast disparities that cleave the girl experience along racial and ethnic lines.   • How to succeed at [insert anything here]

    by Super Kristi Recently, our CEO Debbie Rich was honored with a 2013 Women of Influence Award from Inside Tucson business. Since 2004, they’ve honored women who have a significant effect on the Tucson community.  They’re a special group of women who are looked up to by thousands of women and girls in the Tucson area and beyond. During their acceptance speeches, each woman was asked what advice they’d give to a young woman just beginning her career. They all had terrific answers of course, and I’ve compiled the highlights for you here in hopes that it will be useful as you launch your 2014 Cookie Program.
