WHAT IS A BIRTHDAY-IN-A-BAG?
A Birthday-in-a-Bag is a self-contained gift bag with everything you need to have a Happy Birthday party.
WHO NEEDS A BIRTHDAY-IN-A-BAG?
Every person needs some recognition of their birthday. However certain circumstances occur that might not make that possible. A Birthday-in-a-Bag can make a birthday more special.
WHERE DOES A BIRTHDAY-IN-A-BAG GO?
Each Birthday-in-a-Bag should be delivered to YOUR local food bank or other agency in need (i.e. Children’s Homes, foster child organizations, women’s shelters, etc). Goal is to deliver no later than October 31st, 2011, Juliette Low’s birthday.
HOW CAN MY GIRL SCOUT TROOP HELP?
Each troop can undertake the Birthday-in-a-Bag as a community service project by putting together one or more Birthday Bags. This project is a way of showing that Girl Scouts care and Girl Scouting is an important part of your community. It is also a wonderful tribute to Juliette Low, founder of Girl Scouting, during the 100th year anniversary. **Leaders …we are currently working on creating a custom “Juliette Low’s Birthday-in-a-Bag” fun patch that will eventually be available online from Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland, for girls that participate.**
WHAT ITEMS MAKE UP A BIRTHDAY-IN-A-BAG?
Fill a large gift bag with: Cake mix, frosting (these items would be non-perishable), foil cake pan, cake decorations, candles, balloons, plates, napkins. Additional items that can be included are: birthday banner, party invites, wrapping paper and ribbon, crepe paper, party hats, noise makers, small goodie bags items, table cloth, or small unisex toy or present (unwrapped). **Don’t forget Dollar Tree is a great place to shop for party items that are just $1 each!** You may also enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope for return comments on how the Birthday-in-a-Bag was enjoyed. If you do this, please use your council’s address for safety!
