Mt Lemmon/Whispering Pines Closures

For Immediate Release
June 6, 2011

Girl Scout of Southern Arizona – Sahuaro has been informed that the US Forest Service along with the Pima County Board of Supervisors has decided to close the Coronado National Forest beginning noon on June 9, 2011 until the Forest Service determines that there is sufficient rainfall to minimize the risk of fire. “Girl Scout, troop camps, Mom and me and resident camps scheduled for Whispering Pines Program Center will be cancelled for the month of June.” said Debbie Rich, CEO. “We will work closely with the Forest Service to determine when it is safe to reopen Whispering Pines Program Center. It is our hope to reschedule camps that were slated for June in July assuming that we will regain access to the property the first week in July.”

Sahuaro Girl Scout Council is committed to the safety of girls and the sound stewardship of our properties and supports the Forest Service decision to close the forest. If registered girls cannot attend camp in the month of July please contact the Council for a full refund. Refund requests can be made to refund@sahuarogsc.org or on our website at www.girlscoutssoaz.org/refund or by calling 520-319-3163.

SGSC will provide updates on our website as they become available.
