A Day On, Not A Day Off – Girl Scouts Take Action!

In honor of Martin Luther King Day and the victims of Saturday’s mass shooting, Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona invites you to join us on Monday, January 17th for a day of community action, connection and remembrance. Opportunities to take action will include a food drive for the Community Food Bank, creating pieces for Ben’s Bells wind chimes, card making for the families of the shooting victims and our troops overseas, and contributing to a Gabby Giffords tribute that will be delivered to her office.

There will also be opportunities to sign-up for monthly community action projects throughout 2011, and resources and staff will be available to assist parents in the difficult task of explaining how and why something like this could happen.

We believe that by taking action together, we can truly connect and begin to heal. Girl Scout CEO Debbie Rich says, “As a community still struggling to come to terms with the tragic events of last weekend, it is even more important that we come together this MLK Day to do something positive. We want our girls, our volunteers, and the entire community to know that our doors are open.”

The event will be from 10 am till 2 pm at the Sahuaro Girl Scout Council’s Resource Center. Refreshments and pizza will be provided for our girls and volunteers and their families.
